A nice movie, that has a nice and simple message. Tugs a bit at the heart strings, but with that said this is nowhere close to a top 250 movie, much less a top 50 movie.
I can understand its appeal to Indian audiences as it is probably very relatable and a good portrait of someone who beat the system in an honest way. As a film, however, it is far from being a masterpiece and deserving of a place in the top 250. It is overlong and gets intensely boring in the second half. There is a limit to how long you can pay attention to a man studying at a desk.
Excellent film which gives a good idea about the pressure that an underdog feels to get a new social status. It is not of course a critic of the caste system but an ethical film about how the individual can achieve something of value through the social context in which he lives.
