Despite the fact that they're a pretty obnoxious couple and the film felt like a bad mashup of Annie Hall and Before Sunrise, I found myself enjoying parts of this.

Yes, Woody Allen but only more so.

Brilliant script and dialogue, so close to natural it must have been developed by improvisation.

Looks like Before Sunrise/Sunset/Midnight. But well, I like the atmosphere. I like recognize the streets of Paris, and the atmosphere of parisian parties, parisian people. Julie Delpy is so Parisian to make this film in the anonymous streets of Paris and make feel the atmosphere of a bobo faimly. and so American to show Paris as the romantic city.

Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York was a fun and well-observed comedy that brought her French family (including her real-life hilarious father) to NYC to plague her character's boyfriend, played by Chris Rock. 2 Days in Paris was the first of the sequence, taking place 5 years before when Marion went back home with her then-boyfriend, a neurotic New Yorker played by Adam Goldman. First of all, I can see how Delpy would have wanted to do a follow-up that focused on Marion's crazy family. 2 Days in Paris uses them, but leaves you wanting a lot more. The focus is instead on Goldman freaking out as his girlfriend's history comes back to kiss cheeks and make inappropriate comments (to a repressed American anyway). As with the other film, it's especially funny to someone who speaks both French and English like me, because you understand both sides of conversations without the filter of subtitles.

It was sweet and agrivating and beautifully shot if unwatchable at times, both because of the cringingly self obsessed story or the lost in translation awkward dialogue (this part being on purpose). Just as I was really getting into the film it ended, almost midway but on relfection any longer would have been a lifetime.

The start reminded me of Beginners which isn't a bad thing. I only wish this film had had more silenced scenes like Beginners.

'Meet The Parents' as a bilingual romantic comedy drama, starring Adam Goldberg & writer/director Julie Delpy. 8/10.

Around the 30 minute mark my thoughts were that this could only have been made by someone who was completely full of herself. But then I was laughing so hard at the family lunch scene that I decided to console my earlier griefs.

Although I didn't have any emotional connection to this story or its characters, as I often have had with many Woody Allen films or with Before Sunrise/Sunset, I still found this to be a very enjoyable watch.

Adam Goldberg's character is the only reason to see this movie. Julie Delpy is horrible both as an actress and a director.
