I wasn't expecting a masterpiece or anything, but having just watched the original Poltergeist before this remake, I'm pretty disappointed.
Sure it tries hard to pay tribute to what made the original good, but it fails every time. Kennedi Clements has nothing on Heather O'Rourke and no one else really stands out in this vapid and unnecessary experiment.
The special effects are pretty good, but weak in a few spots. Disappointingly, there are also way too many jump scares and they're of the very frustrating kind.
I don't think anyone asked for or needed a Poltergeist remake and no one in this production seems to have gone out of their way to prove everybody wrong. 7 years 5 months ago
