I don't know if this will be seen, but... i've noticed that when trying to add movies to a list, only a few show up in the search part.

I'm trying to make my first list right now. I type "The Hours" into the search, and the first movie on the list is "The Small Black Room". And of the 10 options i'm given, "The Hours" does not show up at all. And i can't find any other way to add the movie to my list.

Same for Titanic (1953). Several different relevant options show up, but then there's "Remember the Titans", and my "Titanic" is not an option.

It would be awesome if there would be a "more" option in the search, so i can keep searching until i find the movie i'm looking for.

Although you added Michael Haneke's Amour to the Cannes/Palme d'or list a couple of days ago, it still shows up as being in zero lists.

@Gorro Really good suggestion! We'll think about that.

@Marijn I would love a feature that if I add a list to my watchlist, it would automatically add all unchecked movies of that list to my watchlist. Initially I thought it would work that way, but unfortunately it doesn't. I think it would have to be an option that you can set in your profile settings whether you want to use it or not.

@JDias12 There are two types of watchlists. One for movies (/movies/watchlist) and one for lists (/lists/watchlist). You're probably looking at the wrong list :)

There are currently also the categories TV episodes, and TV movies, while shorts unfortunately don't have their own category.

To help us, we would really like to receive your feedback on the following questions:
1. What do you use iCheckMovies for? Do you only use it to keep track of your checks, or do you mainly use the website to find new movies, etc. Please let us know how you use the website.

I use iCheckMovies to check off the movies that I have seen and to get recommendations on what movies to watch next based on the recommended movies list you guys offer or based on official/user-created lists. The one thing I wish I could have as a free member though is the ability to add personal note to movies that I have checked. Sometimes with lesser known movies I would like to kind of leave a personal note as to why I did or didn't like the movie or maybe info about plot or just little things.

badblokebob

I'm talking specifically about television shows, not direct-to-DVD content (that's obviously a movie) or movies shown on tv and not theatricality (again, that's obviously a movie). I still have not made up my min on tv movies, personally.

Debate #1
*** Don't remove tv-series!! *** (already lots of pretty good arguments in other comments) but I think it would be nice and simple to seperate tv-series checks from movie checks.
Ex:

Feature-lenght movies: 2465 checks
Tv-Series: 110 checks
Short films: 145 checks
(other sections here...?...what did i miss...): 25 checks

I think It would accommodate everyone and it would be more specific also! (if we want to see the proportion of what people see) Maybe even seperate short films checks from feature-lenght checks. And also have a choice to hide tv-series or short (or whatever) when we're browsing. Oh well.. just thinking loud..
marco_n65

I like this idea. Obviously, I rather them not be around and this movie be only for movies (maybe including mini-series, but whatever), but if people really want to check tv series, it should be organized in a different way.

Here we go!

1. What do you use iCheckMovies for? I keep track of movies I've seen but I also look for lists where I've checked good movies so I can find more movies of my interests

2. What parts of the website should be improved?
The seeker...because sometimes I can't find a list because I misspelled a word. It would be awesome if had something similar to google and said "0 results...maybe you want to write 'BLA'?"

3. What parts of the website don't you care for, and why? Groups

Debate #2

You have to find a way to seperate the - '' movies seen in 2012'' / '' My 250 movie challenge list'' / ''Favorite movies'' / ''Watchd movies'' / ''Movies I own'' - kind of lists from all the others!! It's not enough to tell them to switch the visibility option... I talked with them. Sometimes they did not know we had ''owned'' movies sections or a ''favorite'' sections... it seems to be a matter of... not to simplify things but... to improve them!

...by the way, the options along the ''check'' button from every movie is really small and almost invisible until you specifictly point and click it... I see the point, but it complicates things for the website's beginners.

It would be nice to maybe have a seperate section... for these MORE personal lists that people care a bit less about in general, and make a new section for lists.. that are containing official sources, that could end up in the official lists section, that are different in the '' Movies about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict'' kind of way..... the PERSONAL section seems... too general.. in that sense........... to have named it the PERSONAL section i mean...

---

1. What do you use iCheckMovies for?
I keep track of movies i've seen, but I also look my unchecked section a lot(by # of top lists(yeah... i'm one of those who care about their rank hehe...)), and different official or personal interesting lists to find interesting and different kind of movies.

2. What parts of the website should be improved, and why?

- The group section is surprisingly not popular... maybe you could try to find why and change that... it's not someting I REALLY care about... but it would be good for you since it's a great feature none the less.

- One little thing that tickles me is that our profil image on the top of every page, next to our user name, is ridiculously small... I don't know why it bothers me but... why don't you make it just a little bit bigger... as much as the bar it's in at least... or make the bar a tiny bit bigger to fit it so we can see something!

- The movie covers I submited on http://www.movieposterdb.com have not been updated on ICM yet... it's been since the annoncment of the change that it has not... i just wonder why.

- the running time and the director(s) for every movies! Yes yes yes! (i know i know it's coming)

- Add more official lists from the personal lists section!!!!!!!

- Add running time and directors!!

- The ''icheckmovies news'' section and movie quotes are too hard to find!!

- The ''progress'' page is great, but the titles of the lists and icons are too small!

- I remember there was a section with a map of the world with pins where users come from. What happened with that??

OH! Another thing. About the resolution of the.. em..image-logo(?) on the top of every page '' i check movies - How many have you seen? '' and also the three main images (''movies'', ''Lists'' and ''People'') also on the top of every page... it is low. The desing is great, but the resolution of the images are a bit low... it's not that bad.. but still..

3. What parts of the website don't you care for, and why? Are there features you'd go so far as to actually rather see them removed from the website?
... no... i don't want anything removed....only things added... i would be sad to have the owned section removed... the groups section also...

Great work with the activity section correction!
And thanks for hearing us!

sorry for the errors.... french is my first language.

I wouldn't say TV series/episodes need be removed. I believe things should be categorized more efficiently, which would make everything flow more easily.

For example, since any checks that are not on any official top-list are bundled into your total checks(pretty much making them irrelevant other than your favs). It should more refined into what a/your specific check would be defined as. Making it accessible to filter through your 'total checks' into TV-series/episodes, shorts, documentaries, porno, silent films, foreign-language etc...

My main p-o-v of this site was too keep track of the feature length films(even though what is official run-time length is up in the air) regardless if it made a top-list. So, for any other checks outside of that merit, it would be a plus to define them categorically.

In hindsight defining what would be categorized as such between everyone would be different. So opting for end-user customization would be the sane path. Customization period for site would make things less of a burden for you guys(pretty sure it's been suggested already).

If you start removing TV series, where do you stop?

Take a TV movie: is that a movie or a TV show? What if it was originally shown on TV in one country but theatrically released in another?

What about direct-to-DVD content?

What about miniseries? And if you keep miniseries, what constitutes one? Americans often call a British series a miniseries because it's so short, so what counts? Or do you just follow IMDb and have things change as they change there?

The line between TV and film is increasingly blurred, and it's just going to get more so in the future. Quality TV has had film-level production values for a long time now, and it's continually spreading (it started with just premium shows on the likes of HBO, but any old network series can potentially look as good (or better) than a movie these days). And it's not just the look, it's the content. Sure, an episodic police procedural is still just factory line entertainment... but then so are blockbusters. And if you really want to assert that a 90-minute Issue Movie can cover something in more depth than a 12-hour authored season of TV...

To discount TV is just snobbery. It should stay. And if some stays, it all must stay.

#2: It would be a great if you can go through your friends' (or anyone's) checks and favorites and put them in order by what YOU have checked/unchecked.

quote:
They just clutter up the site. Aren't there other websites around specifically for tv shows to check? It just doesn't seem reasonable to keep tv shows around. The only reason people have them is to get more checks.

If it makes you feel any better, those with "more checks" (TV show checks, that is) won't raise their rank number :)
And how do they clutter up the site unless you're searching for them? I hardly ever run into any.

IMDb - which iCM's movies are sourced from - is the "Internet Movie Database," but that doesn't stop them from including TV shows. I don't necessarily check shows myself, but it doesn't hurt to have them on here, and I think it's fair if people have particular favorite episodes and want to catalogue it.

But this is icheckmovies, not ichecktvshows. What IMDb does is different from this site. In my opinion, mini series should stay, but tv shows should go. They just clutter up the site. Aren't there other websites around specifically for tv shows to check? It just doesn't seem reasonable to keep tv shows around. The only reason people have them is to get more checks.
