... or add a "Hide lists with low fav/dis rate" (or similar measure) option because sometimes you need date or name sorting while excluding all those "only private use" lists.
Lists easier to find? How about making the movies easier to find!? Try typing in "the skin i live in". The 2011 Antonio Banderas film. Nothing shows up. "La piel que habito" however works fine.
I'll have to agree with Ebbywebby--I think lists should be easier to find on ICM, rather than to cater to those that don't want to see lists that aren't a filmography or some official list by some website. There might be some people that don't want to find those types of lists here.
My suggestion is this: for future lists, prompt the user to pick one or the other.
Adding the category and privacy options to the list creation page would definitely be an improvement (currently these options are only available when you edit a list, not when you create one).

Perhaps it would be a good idea to send PMs to authors of useless personal lists politely asking to set their list as private. I think it's feasible for a group of 10-20 users to go through 1500 lists. They can start from lists with most dislikes. And if it turns out well, the same people could help with categorization.
What do you think?
Sounds good to me. Maybe someone should start a group to coordinate such an effort ...
Wouldn't it be nicer if we were able to import our watchlist from IMDb? I keep track of them over there and I don't plan to do that here aswell since it'd be ridiculously pointless without an import option. (I have nearly 600 titles on my Watchlist on IMDb.)
I agree that the lists which currently exist should NOT be made private, unless the publisher decides to make it that way.
My suggestion is this: for future lists, prompt the user to pick one or the other. Something like "Is this a public list or a private list?" with a check box next to each. The idea is that they have to pick one and most people would probably pick private unless they want everyone to see it. Maybe a brief description of guidelines for each can be given.
Please do not make all of the existing lists private!
I've already spent many hours browsing the lists and adding links to my spreadsheet. I currently have over 300 iCM links on my spreadsheet (arranged by category), and a lot of people on the forum use my spreadsheet to find lists. If all of the lists become private, then all of those links will be broken. I would have to PM everyone asking them to make their lists public. Some of them will and some of them won't.
An alternative solution could be to make any list currently on iCM private if it has more dislikes than favorites (and those users would be able to change their lists back to public if they want). Before you make those lists private, manually browse through them to see if there are any interesting ones that should remain public (or I can do that for you if you want). Then all future lists could be private by default.

I'd like to select an option that you only see the list if you have a direct link to it.This way I can send it to my friends (who are not on ICM) and still others won't be bothered by it. :)

Currently, only public lists in the personal category show up on a user's profile.

Me too, I have 10 lists marked as "Default(public)" that don't show on my dashboard.

Hey, for some reason my list isn't showing up on my profile page anymore. It's set to public.gregmnewman
Great addition, but I also vote for private as default.Maybe a one-off update to make all existing lists private should be done and then list makers could choose to publish them.

Yes I guess a lot of unofficial lists aren't really contributing to ICM. Maybe it should not be shown by default indeed. As for my watchlist (only list I have atm), wasn't really bothered by privacy concerns. But a useful feature nevertheless :)
