The Adopted

At the moment of posting, over 2600 personal lists have been added! Some of those lists are just as interesting as the existing official lists. Therefore, we have created a system that allows us to "adopt" lists. Adopting a personal list means that it becomes an official list, with all the accompanying features (such as having awards, signatures, top users, and appearing on the progress page). The ownership of the list is also transferred from the list's creator to us, thereby allowing the list creator to add a new personal list. You will, however, always be able to see who an adopted list was adopted from.
We are happy to announce that we have selected 10 personal lists for adoption, for which every single owner gave us permission to adopt the list. The selection was made using a combination of user feedback and taking into account what the most popular personal lists are. Additionally, the list must have an official source (such as a book, or a website) and contain some sort of quality criterium by which the movies are judged (which thus includes "best of" lists, but excludes filmographies).
No doubt you are wondering what the lists are that we selected. First, let's see if you can guess them based on their icons:
Of course, we don't expect you to know them by icon, so here's the full list of adopted lists:
- Amos Vogel's Film as a Subversive Art (adopted from BaalMan)
- A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies (adopted from BaalMan)
- Akira Kurosawa's A Dream is a Genius (adopted from BaalMan)
- 500 Essential Cult Movies (adopted from Cayh)
- Dutch Film Top 50 (adopted from Gorro)
- The British Film Institute: 360 Classics (adopted from Kasparius)
- 100 Korean Masterpieces by Film 2.0 (2008 Edition) (adopted from Life as Fiction)
- Harvard University's Suggested Film Viewing List: Narrative Films (2011) (adopted from mjf314)
- Golden Horse's 100 Greatest Chinese-Language Films (adopted from mjf314)
- Criterion's Eclipse Collection (adopted from sarmatianus)
Our huge thanks go out to the users from which we have adopted the lists. They have done an awesome job and deserve a round of applause (*** the complete iCheckMovies team stands up and applauds at this point ***). In the future, we will be adopting more lists, so keep on creating lists and you might be next!
Happy checking!
p.s. the top users for the new lists will be there the next time the top users are updated
