  7. Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies (Nordic version)'s icon

Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies (Nordic version)

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. This list is based on the nordic edition of the DVD set 'Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies'. Though another list appears on iCM, I've found it incorrect in terms of which movies actually appear on my own DVD set. That's why I've made this. Disc 1: 1-9: Fables and fairy tales 10-14: Favorite characters 15-17: Easter eggs Disc 2: 18-27: Nature on screen 28-34: Accent on music 35: Easter egg It seems that the short 'Water Babies' should've appeared as an easter egg on the first disc, but besides an introduction to the short, which is found on the disc, the short itself isn't there. Some of the easter eggs also appears under 'Leonard's Picks'.
  8. Abbott and Costello's icon

    Abbott and Costello

Favs/dislikes: 16:0. Starting as burlesque acts, Abbott and Costello joined and made one of cinema's greatest comedy teams. With Abbott the straight-man and Costello the perennial bumbling troublemaker, one is sure to find brilliant comedy throughout their oeuvre. Although they were made famous by their "Who's on First?" act, it was by their films that they should be best remembered. Abbott and Costello might fill a small spot in the expansive history of comedic teams - but to those who explore their filmography, I envy your first encounter with these masters.

  16. Pitts and Todd's icon

There are also various compilation videos, occasionally with additional content, that are not included here. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_VeggieTales_compilation_videos for a list.

  22. Emotion Pictures: International Melodrama's icon

    Emotion Pictures: International Melodrama

Favs/dislikes: 4:0. When many of us think about movie melodramas, the first names that come to mind are titans of Hollywood’s golden age, directors (Douglas Sirk, Nicholas Ray, Vincente Minnelli, George Cukor) and stars (Lillian Gish, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis) alike. But the melodrama is by no means a distinctly American or mid-century genre, having laid its roots during the silent era (in the work of D. W. Griffith, Erich von Stroheim, F. W. Murnau) before flowering in Japan (Kenji Mizoguchi, Mikio Naruse), Italy (Pier Paolo Pasolini, Federico Fellini), England (David Lean), and elsewhere. Indeed, the careers of many key filmmakers of modern cinema have been predicated on radical reinterpretations of the form, as in the work of Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Pedro Almodóvar, Todd Haynes, Leos Carax, Lars von Trier, Wong Kar Wai, and Guy Maddin. This series pays tribute to the genre that boldly endeavored to put emotion on screen in its purest form, featuring classics from the silent era and Hollywood’s Golden Age to major mid-century films from around the world to modern dramas and subversive postmodern incarnations. Bring tissues.
  23. Slapstick Encyclopedia's icon

    Slapstick Encyclopedia

  24. Tarzan film adaptations's icon

    Tarzan film adaptations

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. An in-progress list of film adaptations based on Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan. I did not include tv series, though I did include TV movies and feature-length edits of TV episodes. Entries from 1918 to 1929 are silent films and film serials. Tarzan the Ape Man (1932) is the first sound adaptation of the character and the first film in a long-running franchise. It's also the first of the films to star the iconic Tarzan actor Johnny Weissmuller, who would go on to play Tarzan in twelve films total, ending with Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948). Other actors that played Tarzan in the franchise: Lex Barker (five films between 1949 and 1953); Gordon Scott (six films between 1955 and 1960); Jock Mahoney (two films between 1962 and 1963); Mike Henry (three films between 1966-1968). Ron Ely played the character in the NBC TV series, which is not included on this list, but included are the cinematically released pilot Tarzan's Jungle Rebellion (1966) and Tarzan's Deadly Silence (1970), which was edited from two of the series' episodes. The latter part of the list consists of films that were not part of the original franchise. Missing from iCM: Tarzán y el arco iris aka Tarzan and the Brown Prince (1972, unauthorized)
