In a nutshell, here are the BaTTR Score Parameters: Time Travel Mechanics – How the time travel happens and to what extent the mechanics is woven into the plot. Repercussion – What the purpose of the time-travel is and what are the in-film complexities because of it. Base Coherence – How well the timelines were executed in the film. This is not part of the overall score. Instead, we have … Coherence – This is the Base Coherence recalculated, keeping in mind the Repercussion in the film. By its very nature, the sci-fi genre is relatively complex: the short stories, novels, TV series and films that comprise speculative fiction necessitate detailed expository passages to build its far-flung futures, reality-bending premises, and stories set in a galaxy far, far away. Whether the story is set on an alien world populated by creatures markedly different from human beings, in a future separated by centuries or eons from the present in which society, technology, science, and civilization itself have evolved into a nearly unrecognizable state, or center around time or space travel, sci-fi stories require complex set-ups to create a believable reality that’s very different from our own. Favs/dislikes: 0:0. The powerful and tragic effects of psychological trauma truly entered the consciousness of mainstream America as veterans were returning from the Vietnam War. This prompted the American Psychological Association to finally recognize Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as an actual affliction in 1980. Prior to this new diagnosis, terms like “shell shock”, “combat fatigue”, and “hysteria” were used to describe the bevy of short- and long-term symptoms that patients often felt after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. While the diagnosis of PTSD did not exist until the early ‘80s, authors and filmmakers had been exploring the horrifying and detrimental impact of psychological trauma for decades. As is the case with trauma, film has represented the varied and unpredictable symptoms that manifest in sufferers.
