100 Best Movies of All Time (according to 24/7 Wall St.)

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. Film is arguably the art form that evokes the most emotions. And great films are those that move audiences most. They generate a deep connection between moviegoers and the story. While 24/7 Wall St.’s list of 100 best movies of all time attempts a more impartial approach of aggregating and averaging critic and audience reviews, these reviews were no doubt influenced by the films’ emotional appeal.
  2. 20/20 Award Best Cinematography's icon

    20/20 Award Best Cinematography

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. From the website: "The 20/20 Awards uses the advantage of time and perspective to annually re-evaluate the Oscars from 20 years prior. Utilizing the benefit of hindsight, a voting body of film industry professionals from around the world carefully elects either new or previous nominees, and hosts a live awards ceremony, designed to both honor and offer new perspective with fresh commentary on the impact of this body of work on cinema itself, and its influence on our culture. Every year since 1927, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognizes excellence in the film industry through the Academy Awards®, bestowing honors upon films, directors, actors, screenwriters, and technical artists who created outstanding art in cinema. The awards are given in the spring, honoring those films released in the previous calendar year. However, as with all annual award ceremonies, the Academy Awards® lack two of history’s most reliable criteria for appraising artistic merit: time and perspective. By bestowing awards on film-work released merely the year before, errant factors often come into play such as fleeting trends, industry politics, favoritism, marketing campaigns and short term current events that translate little out of context. Sifting through the list of Academy Award winners over the decades reveals a multitude of films, directors, screenplays, performances, musical scores and other contributions that have not stood well against the cold scrutiny of time. Meanwhile, many neglected films have proved to be far more influential to the medium, continuing to resonate with modern audiences and critics far more than many of the Oscar winning films. The 20/20 Awards offer a unique alternative to prevailing award shows, emphasizing the test of time as the key criterion by which films and filmmakers should be honored. Looking back twenty years affords voters an insight free from industry insiderism and the contemporary zeitgeist." This is the list of best cinematography winners, as selected by The 20/20 Awards.

  8. BBC's The 100 Greatest TV Series of the 21st Century's icon

BBC's The 100 Greatest TV Series of the 21st Century

Favs/dislikes: 6:1. October 18th, 2021: This year, it felt about time that we turned our attention to another art form: television. That's in part because TV has played such a crucial role in many of our lives over the past 18 months, when we have relied on it for information, entertainment, solace and inspiration in equal measure. It felt like the right time to survey the television landscape because arguably it has been the defining art form of the past 21 years: where once, rightly or wrongly, it was largely patronised as cinema's younger, more rough-and-ready sibling, today its artistic credibility is unassailable, while the advent of streaming platforms has also given shows the ability to reach unprecedented global audiences all at once. And so, in order to mark TV's ascendancy, we have decided to ask the question: what are the greatest TV series of the 21st Century? While in no way definitive, the answers we have collated are fascinating – and, we hope, will inspire TV lovers everywhere to both seek out titles they haven't seen before, and further reflect on and discuss ones they have. In total, 460 different series were voted for by 206 TV experts – critics, journalists, academics and industry figures – who came from 43 countries, from Albania to Uruguay. Of these voters, 100 were women, 104 were men, and two were non-binary. Each voter listed their 10 favourite TV series of the 21st Century, which we scored and ranked to produce the top 100 listed below. ---BBC Culture

Billboard's The 100 Best Acting Performances by Musicians in Movies

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. "We wanted to take a look back at 100 of our all-time favorite musician appearances in feature films. They range from Oscar-winning starring turns in prestige classics to split-second cameos in cult favorites, from artists who have come to be as synonymous with film as with music to artists whose IMDB pages might just be a couple entries long. We only had three hard rules for eligibility: 1. The artist had to be well-known for music before they were well-known for film acting. (Apologies to Jamie Foxx, Lindsey Lohan and — most painfully — Jennifer Lopez.) 2. The artist couldn’t be starring as themselves in the performance, even in a somewhat fictionalized rendering. (Further regrets to Alice Cooper, The Spice Girls, and The Beatles.) 3. Only one performance per musician-actor. Besides those, our list encompasses nearly a century of hitmakers-gone-Hollywood history, from the very beginning of the sound era all the way up to this year — and yes, Gaga made our list, though you’ll have to read on to see just where she ranked. Come dive in to the deep end with us." Note: Dreamgirls appears on the list twice at #8 for Jennifer Hudson and #35 for Beyoncé.

Bleacher Report.com's The 100 Greatest Sports Movies of All Time

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. Is there anything a sports fan loves more than a good sports movie? Judging by the staggering amount of them out there, I'm inclined to say no. If you think about it, sports movies aren't even fair. We already love sports, so we're halfway there before the movie even starts. Throw us a good story and we're ready to go for the ride. A good sports movie can make you sit on the edge of your seat, laugh, or even cry. But most of all, a good sports movie makes you care. I've compiled the best comedies, dramas, family films, action movies, and documentaries to make up the list of The 100 Greatest Sports Movies of All Time. Let the debate begin.
