    A Year of Essential Cinema

Favs/dislikes: 9:1. Inspired by the chronological charting of film, and the vast history of world cinema, as presented by Mark Cousin's superb 'A Story of Film: An Odyssey', I have decided to make 2012 the year where I finally get to watch those recognised classics and take a bite out of the canon. Follow me as I take on the world of cinema from the silent era to the explosion of the talkies, through the golden age of Hollywood to the uprising of new wave cinema across Europe and worldwide, the uprising of the movie brats to the dawn of independent film making right through to the current digital boom. This list will constantly be updated throughout the year. Since 2012 my knowledge of film and the breadth of cinema I have consumed has magnified ten fold and I can't thank Mark Cousins enough for encouraging me to delve deeper. I devised a 2nd part some time ago and I kept to the same formula, tackling films chronologically and from a wide source of film movements, countries and directors. This list is a guide only and a dedicated viewer could easily watch them all within the year allocated. For me this list is become an enjoyable experience that guides rather than dictates my viewing, I love all that cinema has to offer and for those that stick to the safety of 'what they know' really are missing out, I encourage those delving into film to take risks, watch everything you can whenever you can and exploring
