"What's wrong" with us is that we're mature enough to realize that the fact that a list of slightly over 100 titles doesn't include certain favorites doesn't mean that the list "blows." The list is great, regardless of the fact that each of us could think of other titles that deserve to place on the list.
I would only complain about the exclusion of certain films if some of those that were included didn't seem at all deserving - there are, of course, some I don't like very much, but overall what's on here deserves to be on here.
Well, Knaldskalle, that is also true to a certain extent. But I'd say that since it is a silent movie, and therefore has no spoken language, and is furthermore directed by a Dane, considering it at least partial Danish would not be wrong.
It's the same list, just some trilogies (Three Colours, Apu) were grouped together as one movie, plus the Brakhage Anthology was counted as one when it includes over 20 individual films.
This list has turned out to be one of the most interesting on this site, I look forward to watching these films.
"2020 update added a new restriction of one film per director, but other films that would have made the list without that restriction can be seen in the subtitle for each main entry in the source."
This is a subtlety that gets lost in ICM. It would be great if someone could create a secondary A&F list including the Subtitled films.
Though I find the criteria for the list rather ambiguous and ill-defined (what, exactly, does "spiritually significant" mean?), this is actually a pretty fantastic list. They get extra kudos for including three films from the Dardenne brothers, who are among the best directors working today.

Regardless of your beliefs, this is really one of the best "best of" lists I have ever seen.jewellrunner

Apocalypse Now... The first thing I thought when I walked out of that theater was "that didn't feel like a war movie but a spirtual journey"Nuked

It's my understanding that The Passion of Joan of Arc is generally considered French.tomsalad

If Touch Of Evil is "spiritually significant", Silence Of The Lambs is.rehimmel

The company that funded it was French. It's a French film.
Ernst Lubitsch's Hollywood films were not partly German just because Lubitsch himself was.
