Because Sherlock's a series, not a miniseries. It just has really short seasons.

LWhite54, this is an IMDb list.

Like most (if not all) IMDb lists, a film's (or mini-series') inclusion is based on its popularity with IMDb voters.

Therefore it is not very likely that a list will be made up of uniformly excellent titles, and even less likely that inclusion will correlate to a title's historical significance within a given genre.

For easy proof of this, go weep over the Top 250 list.

tv MINI-series. MINI, MINI, MINI.
Jesus Christ... So many people here should read a book called "Children's ABC" before posting comments. Do not understand how so many people can write but not read. It is a mystery...

I'd say all of it. Plus, most on this list are less than 10 episodes. TV shows are usually double that amount.

Hell, I still debate with myself about checking The Godfather Saga. I've seen the 'extended version' movies, etc - that counts, yes? No? Maybe?

The Wire is not a TV mini-series.

@ Alias, re: "Firefly should SO be in here."

I loved Firefly, but a series canceled after one season is not the same as a miniseries.

I know I have no real input here because I've only seen a paltry 12 of these, but I have to say that the miniseries format is a must try. Band of Brothers is beautiful and epic. The Dekalog and I, Claudius are both very slow but incredibly deep shows. The Singing Detective is absolutely unlike anything else that has ever been made.

@ myopia - You said, "Plus, this is the first encounter on any list I've seen of these."

Many of these titles are on more than one list.

Several can be found in Doubling the Canon, Lonesome Dove shows up on 100 Essential Westerns, Heimat and Berlin Alexanderplatz are both in the TSPDT 1,000 (among other lists), the second Heimat series is on Rosenbaum's list, Tinker Tailor and Singing Detective are both on Thomson's list, Riget shows up on Schneider's, The Dekalog is on EIGHT other lists besides this one.

What lists *are* you working on?

And yes, I think some people have a prejudice against television that is (pardon me) short-sighted.

why is Planet Earth (2016) not on this list when it has 9.7 score with 25k votes while The Godfather anthology has only 9.5 with 3k votes?

Both Planet Earth I & II should be on the documentary lists as well considering IMDB's classification

I believe that 'Rich Man/Poor Man' may qualify as the very first mini-series (and was great BTW) and probably rates a spot on this list for that reason alone.

How about 'Rich Man/Poor Man', one of the original miniseries? Or 'Shogun'?
