Well it's all a matter of how you rate accomplishments. Spielberg could be called one of the most accomplished American directors of the last 30 years - but I would refrain from even mentioning him among the most accomplished directors in cinema history. This opinion might (or might not) be shared by "so-called film buffs", but truthfully I think it's a result of acquainting oneself further with the medium (i.e. buffness?)
What happened in 1994? Was there a tie for "Pulp Fiction" and "Forrest Gump"? I am not complaning. Depending on my mood I can't decide between those two films.
I'm a bit hit and miss with Spielberg myself, but the fact that they awarded "Empire of the Sun," one of his best, most overlooked films, earns them some respect in my eyes.

So-called film buffs like to call Spielberg a hack. He is one of the most accomplished directors in cinema history and that my friends is a fact.FilmWalrus

only 3 of Spielberg's 26 films are on here, that hardly marks a trend.MovieDearest
"The Social Network" was named the NBR's Best Film of 2010 today. I've emailed iCM to update this list.AtomicSquid
