Well I can't say I enjoyed it but it certainly made me feel a lot of things. Overall, I agree with most of the comments - the cinematography is beautiful but there is no real character development.

Great display of McQueen skills in a powerful story. Ceremonious style for a crude subject. The movie would have gained a lot by a slightly better performance by Ejiofor since he's in all scenes but the rest of the cast is almost perfect. The music is not very impressive and, as somebody already noticed, is very similar to some other scores of the last years. The whipping scene is probably the best scene of the year. Hopefully McQueen will still have carte blanche in the next movie.

The title should be 12 Years a Slave, see the movie poster and IMDb. 12 Years a Slave (film) is based upon Twelve Years a Slave (book).

The greatest movie I did not enjoy watching.

I can't criticize the execution (it was near perfect), but don't expect any "fun" from this movie. It's everyting but a feel good movie.

It's also quite long, and very slow at times.

You'll eventually have to watch it. Just don't make the mistake of inviting friends over to watch this movie expecting it to be the "movie of the year". It's good, but not "entertaining good".

Just my two cents. Your mileage may vary.

Not McQueen's best, but still very good. Hans Zimmer's participation is quite unfortunate.

Brilliant. I don't think I will ever be able to look at Michael Fassbender again.

Wow. This is a special and brutal movie. I haven't felt this stunned by a film's content since I watched Salo: the 120 Days of Sodom, but the difference is that was exploitation and this is history. 9/10

Powerful drama, not easy too watch. But a bit cold also and I wasn't really compelled by the lead character. But still shocking and emotional. Well deserved oscars

It's a very delicate theme and you knew that you were going to be left heartbroken... But with a strong theme, you've to have a great story line... I didn't feel that. The plot was not that good, the characters weren't developed enough. Felt more like a documentary than a movie, skipping from one horror to the other... I don't like when a movie is more about punishing the viewer than presenting a good story. As much respect as one can have for all of those who suffered in the world history of slavery, this is not as good as it could be.

Steve McQueen can do no wrong. 10 years from now, he'll be among the greats.

There will never be a one too many movies that portray the history of slavery and racism with a serious view, as Twelve years a slave accomplishes.
A seriousness that didn't went overboard, with a down to earth, based on true facts approach.
With that being said, it contains imagery of injustice, violence and torture in a sober way, this is, as a "as it was" kind of way.

Well execute, performed and told, but not flawless. It left me with a sense of a well study lesson from a applied student, as Steve McQueen, but without the extra mile, wittingly I presume.

Didn't feel at ease with some of the flashbacks and the shallowness of some characters, possibly compensated with a larger that necessary number of personas positions and actions depicted.

Not a masterpiece but I guess time will tell.
