My experience of seeing this was utterly ruined by a couple in their 40s that talked the entire time, made and received multiple phone calls, were sharing pictures of family members, and I believe the guy changed his ring tone after playing several rounds of Cut the Rope. Whenever anyone would reprimand them they would flip out and yell back. It was a nightmare.

Didn't get any of the emotional impact people who liked this film describe. I felt the movie trying to manipulate me, and my natural reaction to that is to clam up and pull out of the movie.

I also think it is not a great portrayal of slavery. Mostly because the slave owners are not believable people. Maybe that's how they really were - I wasn't there. But I've seen interviews with serial killers where I empathized more with the killers than I did with these slave owners. So... gonna say that was probably an overplay on the part of making the slave owners look evil.

It was a good movie but not that great as people are making it out to be. Also, acting were good but again not so much as Oscar locks.

Powerful drama, not easy too watch. But a bit cold also and I wasn't really compelled by the lead character. But still shocking and emotional. Well deserved oscars

It's a very delicate theme and you knew that you were going to be left heartbroken... But with a strong theme, you've to have a great story line... I didn't feel that. The plot was not that good, the characters weren't developed enough. Felt more like a documentary than a movie, skipping from one horror to the other... I don't like when a movie is more about punishing the viewer than presenting a good story. As much respect as one can have for all of those who suffered in the world history of slavery, this is not as good as it could be.

Steve McQueen can do no wrong. 10 years from now, he'll be among the greats.
