This is being added to the list of Hollywood mediocre and pandering to be easy for everyone film's that I didn't finish. At some point, there was no point in continuing. For recent movies, list currently contains Star Wars 7 (this), Rogue One, Fantastic Beasts, most recent Marvel films especially Doctor Strange.

If I hadn't been dragged along or forced to watch all the other Star Wars films before this, I may have liked it more. It's a passable film.

This isn't the review of The Force Awakens you're looking for--I mean, it's not the review that's going to revolutionize critical thought on the long-awaited - and in some quarters, dreaded - Star Wars Episode VII. Like most who approached the film critically, I found it had problems similar to those of the prequels, namely that many of its plot elements were "this again?". What it DID have that the prequels didn't was new characters that I wanted to see again. Rey, Finn, Poe, BB8, even poor, tortured Kylo Ren, are all worthy of this new trilogy. Making us accept the changing of the guard at all is a triumph, and I find each of these characters just enough of a remix of the original films' ensemble to keep things too derivative. This is also the funniest Star Wars film ever in terms of banter, but which still manages to throw some effective emotional punches, whether they be letting us share in the excitement the actors and characters are feeling (Light Side), or letting dramatic moments play out without dialog as pure cinema (Dark Side). Fleeting irritation at plot holes and elements copied not remixed from the originals, but otherwise, a solid entertainment. Fun above all. That puts it on par with Return of the Jedi, sharing the 2nd position in my personal ranking.

It doesn't beat the original and in some sections not even the prequels. It was a fun and enjoyable disney ride. Safe but nothing iconic.

Luckily for the next movie we get another director because like any Abrams film: strong beginnings, weak endings.

I can't drink the Kool-Aid here. This film is fun and exciting, but it lacks an identity. It's a pale, even lame reflection of the original trilogy (especially "A New Hope") that is made for an audience keen on nostalgia and little else. I'd actually rather watch the prequels, even though they were less well executed - they had much more to sink one's teeth into.

Basically just a carbon copy of Episode IV "revamped" for the kiddies. Bigger special effects. Bigger Death Star. Everything is bigger except the diminutive prospective Jedi and the villain, which seems like the economarket version of Darth Vader. Just an overblown Disney toy commercial. Shame.

I tried to go into the movie without any expectations. I almost did but I ended up pretty excited as it finally started. From the moment of the three bloody stripes on Finn's helmet, I liked the movie and it didn't let me down. I admit that you might have some difficulties do get the whole story that happened in these thirty years inbetween. I bet it will be explained in future movies, though.
I can't really understand all of you who have a problem with the fan service.... I mean what if Abrams would have done his own original movie, without any appearance of the old cast etc. ??? I think most of the fanservice or "unoriginal" complainers would have rebelled and shouted "that's no real star wars!" "Where's Han, Where is Leia ??" "What is the relation to the other movies??" and so on.... you get the idea ;)
Personally I really enjoyed the film, I liked Kylo Ren (he is not the true evil guy... geez... he is becoming it maybe) because of his imperfectness and I loved the lots of citations and links to the original trilogie. I am born 1992 but I can imagine now how the "a new hope" audiences felt after the first star wars movie. Thank you, J.J.

The Search is on for the Legend Luke Skywalker. The First 30 minutes of The Force Awakens are fucking awesome, the opening credits to the action packed start, Its back with a bang it captures the Spirit and Magic of the original Star Wars, the return of Millennium Falcon was such a joy. Sadly in turns into a a remake with another plot about Death Star ( for the 3rd time in the Star Wars Movies) But this time the star is BIGGER and with BETTER EFFECTS.

Oscar Isaac is in a lot of the best scenes in the movie, he needed more screen time, this man is a Superstar, The force is his screen presence. Hope he plays a bigger role in the sequels. I liked newcomers Fin and Rey and there backgrounds, good chemistry between the two, BB-8 over R2D2 any-day, Infact BB-8 is the best character in the film. Damn Han Solo is bloody old, its awkward him watching him run, the movie goes down a level when Han and Chewie appears, and down another when Princess Leia and C-3PO get of the ship. The film don't give the returning characters a background about what happened in the period between episode 6 and this one. A certain SPOILER lacked emotion to me.

The lead Villain Kylo Ren is bad-ass from the start, but he goes downhill from there, is family relationships seem forced and rushed, such a confusing character, Reminds me of a Young Professor Snape when he takes his mask off. Its hard to believe this really powerful Jedi that's turned to the dark side can struggle to beat young untrained Girl in Rey and former Storm trooper in Fin, Kylo Ren is quite weak and crappy, C-3PO might even have a chance of beaten him in a Light saber battle. Luke Skywalker with a beard is god, he will be this series version of Yoda, Hope he brushes up on is acting.

Star Wars The Force Awakens is a recycled version of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, which leaves lots of unanswered questions. I Would say it's the 5th best Star Wars Movie from the 7. Director J.J. Abrams and Disney played it safe, low on creativity and imagination it lacks memorable scenes to be a great film, No denying it was a fun bumpy ride which I enjoyed the nostalgia but its brings nothing new to the World of Star Wars and Blockbuster movies.
