Good ol' Emmerich disaster fest. I had avoided seeing this specifically because it was associated with the Mayan 2012 stupidity, but if I was ever to watch, this was the day. I really enjoyed the over-the-top cliches in every scene, and no director does that finer. It was nice that the film barely mentions the 2012 nonsense...despite the name. Much more entertaining than Day After Tomorrow.
Watched this for the first time today because of an inside joke with myself - that I'd only watch it on "the day the world will end". Ha. Ha. I've heard so much shit about this movie for the last three or so years though and I wasn't too happy about pressing play but honestly it was better than I thought. Not great, but, I mean, good actors and kinda good special effects etc. So, yeah, alright movie.
Poorly acted, ridiculous story line, bad science, appallingly crass treatment of wide scale loss of life. Made "The Day After Tomorrow" seem like a cinematic masterpiece.
Very good special effects, but besides that it's just another shit movie about the end of the world like many already existed. It just puts the title 2012 and then you have this movie.
Some of the politics of this film are slightly disturbing but I'm not even getting into it, it's just not worth it. Dumb film full of people making dumb decisions.
I have to say the special effects were great, just like I expected - but I missed something. Despite great actors like John Cusack I couldn't really empathize with the characters and I was never really drawn to the story. A very mediocre film - I had expected more of it.
The middle bit is nice ... and a perfect way to distract the people from the fact that the story is pretty thin and inaccurate and from the fact that the original problem never got solved but everything is magically ok ... oh dear. And err
if ever there was a type of person to save, politicians would be last on that list!

Come on! Surely noone went and saw this expecting anything BUT than the usual cliché story lines and bad acting! The movie is EXACTLY what you would expect.. if you are entertained by disaster movies, it is likely that you will like this one. It is no better or worse than anything else that has been released depicting the 'end of the world'. Not a movie I would favourite, but I got what i wanted. Mindless Hollywood shite, with lots of good effects - I thoroughly enjoyed it :)KuroSawWhat
