Great story of a trans-atlantic friendship told through real letters, and a true story.

A delightful tale of a friendship which develops, first due to their love of books and then because of - not despite - their similar countries. What was difficult to say out loud in person came easy and freely on paper. A love story? Yes but so much more than that.

The film is an excellent adaptation of the wonderful book by Helene Hanff of her dealings with Marks & Co. I can watch / read this story over and over again.

Anne Bancroft and Anthony Hopkins are perfection in the lead roles.

'84 Charing Cross Road' was my introduction to Ms Hanff, who is now a favourite author of mine, and I highly recommend all of her books (of which there are too few).
