A beautiful, simple film. It's a shame that because of the nature of the relationship, this movie is seen as a lgbt movie and not just a movie. Love the natural language and performances of the actors. It goes a long way to show you the beauty that lies in the simplicity of an average life.
fantastic film pure and simple. i love the way it was shot and the chemistry and truth in the relationship was refreshing when compared to so many other films of the same genre
In terms of pure craft and styling, Weekend exemplifies how a movie should be made for less than half a million dollars. If other low-budget filmmakers could follow suit, we would have more watchable independent films coming out.
With that said, I don't think there was anything particularly profound, creative, or moving about the story or the writing. Two strong performances, wonderful shooting/editing, but that's it.
So, another indie film where attractive twentysomethings sit and talk about relationships. But it's special, just because it's about gay men? A decent little film, but it sure doesn't seem worth Criterion's attention.
I'm also not crazy about the faint suggestion that gay people need drugs in order to have a serious conversation.
I enjoy it when films attempt Naturalism and this film did a great job at it. But when the characters are just sooo boring it's hard to actually sit through.
Saw it at #QFilmFestival2012. Some say it's one of the best films in 2011. I can't agree with that. This is pretty much a typical gay film, only with a bit deeper emotion. A gay couple suffers from different understanding concerning their relationship.
It's like this: we're gay, so what are we gonna do? Do it publicly or secretly? Holding hands and kisses at public places? Call one another a boyfriend? Getting married?
Anyway, it repeatedly shows a unique and smart angle to shoot. Makes the audience feels like they stalk this gay couple.
Boring characters in unrealistic settings. Everyone else in the world interacts with each other, while completely ignoring the main players unless it's critical to the scene that they interact with them.
You can get a lot more out of this film by imagining them being dead and not knowing it. Whenever they "interact" with anyone else, they really aren't and it's just in their heads. When I figured that out, it gave it a level of unintentional enjoyment and made the movie more bearable.

Hands down the best film I have ever seen. Babel was my #1 until now, but Weekend has knocked it off its first place. It is an incredible film.Ebbywebby
