Brilliant performance by Keira! Didn't find it over the top, as she was, in fact, a mental patient.
Agree with what has been said, had potential to be much more mesmerizing, as the background and actors were worthy. However I still think it's underrated.
Also, would have loved to have the relationship between Freud and Jung more developed.

I had high expectations about this movie, probably because of Keira, but somehow I didn't connect with any of the actors. There still is a feeling that something was missing, maybe that is the connection, maybe a deeper story line.

I thought it was good, but I did get the feeling there should have been something more to it. It is definitely an actor's movie though. Keira Knightly deserved an Oscar for her performance.

I didn't much enjoy this, and I don't think it was only because I can not bear Keira Knightly. It was just a bit...flat. I expected something a bit more spectacular, I suppose. Ho hum.

Thought Viggo was damn good, expected more from Cronenberg, and found an absence in the movie that should have been more intriguing and captivating. Hope Cosmopolis will be better. 3/5

This wasn't a fun movie, but I thought it was very well done, and WOW Keira needs some awards, what a performance. If you felt awkward around her histrionics, good, that was part of the point. I was surprised by how in the background Viggo was; I was expecting more of him in the movie, and while it was difficult at times to understand him around the accent and/or the cigar, he did an amazing job as Freud. And Michael Fassbender can do (almost) no wrong; his performance was lovely as well.

I agree with some comments stating that they expected the movie to go a little deeper (e.g. regarding psychoanalysis).

Nevertheless I think it is a good movie and it does offer some interesting thoughts on different approaches on psychology and therapy - but also different views on life, whether one should follow his instincts and desires or repress them...

And of course the acting was superb - I really enjoyed the performances of Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen, but also Keira Knightley. Vincent Cassel embodied yet another unusual, crazy character and did a great job as well.

A potted history of the opposing views of Carl Jung & Sigmund Freund. Interesting but ultimately felt empty. 7/10.

I liked how there was very little sound/music (both diegetic and non-diegetic) apart from the dialogues, in the sense that this contributed to the film's aesthetics regarding the story that was being told. Vincent Cassel steals the scene in the brief moments he appears, and Fassbender is a pleasure to watch as always... Not quite sure about Keira's performance though..

Three cracking central performances and wonderful writing. Far better than it's getting credit for.

Like the pychoanalysis theory itself, this film is confusing with dialogues and lines. One of Knightley best performances, tho.

All the elements are there for an incredible film - Cronenberg, Fassbender, Mortenson, gorgeous locations, a fascinating subject, but for some reason it lacks the ability to engage. Perhaps it was the screenplay. I thought Knightley was fine in a very difficult role, but overall I found it good and worthy, but ultimately disappointing.
