Shamelessly schmaltzy Nicholas Sparks adaptation; approach with greatest caution. For what it is, it's not a terribly made film, although it starts with a very cliché first half (which I, naively, somehow enjoyed) and crushes you with maximum sentimentality in the final half hour, increasing by each minute. By then, I could hardly look at the screen anymore. In between, I was torn apart between trying to smile and not to throw up. Again: beware.
My biggest takeaway, seeing this in 2021 for the first time: have we reached a point in time where late 90's college rock don't make a movie cheap, but instead let you feel warmly nostalgic? Maybe by 2030 old men will sigh at the sound of 311, Cold and Onesidezero (for real!) and feel like teenage girls did when they saw this film, hehe. 3 years 2 months ago -
