Perhaps it's just that 1962 wasn't my era, or that I have little interest in cars, but I just can't relate to American Graffiti. The soundtrack is nice, the acting is largely fine, but nothing of the story nor adventures therein interest me. It's a shame because it probably IS a decent film, I just can't relate.

Another film that I can't believe was made by the same guy who created Howard the Duck, the Star Wars prequels and Special Editions. Are there two George Lucases or what?
It's such a sweet, light-hearted, honest movie.

Interesting film. Incredibly rose-tinted in its view of youth experiencing being empowered teenagers for the first time, and of course its very subjective, but I was struck by the sexism. Perhaps its down to Lucas not being able to write well for women, but the women in this film seemed to act purely as a foil for a guy having an emotional experience. The few times women were talking amongst themselves it was all about guys and/or cars. Was the world REALLY populated by pretty young women who got turned on by guys with cars?
Loved the music, Wolfman Jack and the chance to see young actors get such impressive roles.

I'd have to agree with Frank and Dick on this. I just couldn't relate to any of this.

This movie should be called "Riding In Cars With Boys" and Riding In Cars With Boys (2001) should be called "American Graffiti" instead.

Count me as one of the people who was mesmerized by the film, but then I've always been a fan of nostalgic stuff from eras I didn't even grow up in. At no point in this film did I really think I was watching a movie, it felt so much like a real documentary, almost as if they just followed a bunch of teenagers around with a camera and edited it into a film. Major props to Coppola and Lucas for capturing the essence and flavor of 1962. It's pretty spectacular.

This film has withstand the test of time simply because it connects to those who weren't there during the 60's and for those who were there at almost at equal levels. It also leaves one to feeling a bittersweet melancholy.

I don't like cars, but I love this movie anyway because of the great characters and the cool stories.
