I think Jennifer Lawrence deserved an Oscar for this role, instead of winning for "Silver Linings Playbook". She was much better on "American Hustle".

After all the hype and then all the down-playing, I didn't really know what to expect. I recommend you enjoy it for what it is, a movie for the pure joy of acting.
If you've seen the TV series " Boardwalk Empire" it would help you feel the historical resonances because it's a continuation of the Atlantic City scams and mafia deals and with even some of the same actors.

K Dickian mindfuck labyrinths- who cons who, who's real, who loves who, what's love, who are you? - arriving at an objective happy ending straight out of golden age Hollywood with a touch of grey. Style that drips like papaya juice, outshining Tarantino's 70isms and Scorsese at his most recently energetic. Louis C.K.'s most beautiful film character ever. Acting that reminds you of Zulawski at his most intense (the only thing missing is George Delerue). This shit right here, is fucking beautiful, or, to quote good ol' J.R.: "it's a slobberknocker".

Joker of Gotham

This David O. Russell is a special director, in his last 3 movies 11 performances were nominated for an oscar, really impressive.
American Hustle is a good movie, a solid crime movie with some good twists and dialogue and great music.
Hands down the performances are the best thing.

How many music montages were there? Over 5? Gotta love that sweet, sweet filler. This is a movie with a lot of bark, no bite, and a stellar costume department.

Very surprised at all the love this movie is getting. It was good, maybe even just OK. It was built like a classic Scorsese picture, where there is a basic plot outline and then events just kind of happen within the confines of that outline. Each event isn't necessary to the plot. These scenes in between the moments of actual exposition serve character development, but I didn't find myself actually invested in the characters. The performances were good and all, but in the end, I had no sympathy for anybody in the movie because it didn't do a good job of giving me a reason to. Overall, just good. If it wins Best Picture (it will grab a nomination just because it is such a critical darling), then I will have lost all faith in the Oscars, the very little that is left.

I can easily see why all the Oscar buzz as the movie is utterly beautiful to watch. Every scene is such a perfect cinematography that it's too bad the plot is so pointless and utterly boring that I cannot even understand what the movie is about.

To be honest, I was dissapointed. Yes, the movie looks great and the acting is terrific but.....it's not that entertaining. Nothing much happens and there's just a hurricane of dialogue. Also the Hustle isn't so spectactular. Don't understand why this is billed as a comedy either.

A maverick FBI agent arm-twists 2 con artists to work for him and stage an elaborate sting operation, targeting some of the big-shot politicians and mobsters in the city. What happens to these principal players at the end of it all, is the crux of the plot.

All the actors are FAB (Bradley Cooper, with a curled hair-do leads the merit list), the music is classy, the period detailing, costumes and styling are authentic (Christian Bale's makeover and shades are top-notch).

Of course, we get to see a lot of the sensual Amy Adams' tiny boobs and the brilliant Jennifer Lawrence at her dynamic, eccentric best.

I'll say it is an exotic drama where there is a lot of scheming, passion, romance, lust and entertainment. I was riveted to the action.

oscar nominations and golden globes? the film did very little do deserve all this hype except come out at the right time.

a messy plot, awfully unlikeable characters, some disappointing performances, thoroughly average technically. an average film for whiling away your time.
