Irving's wife Rosalyn was great, laughed her too much.

It's not exactly original, but the performances are uniformly strong (although Jennifer Lawrence continues to be somewhat overrated), the direction is solid and there isn't much bullshit (okay, there is some bullshit). It won't blow any minds but it is a satisfying and well-made film that I will probably never watch again.

Truthfully, I was not blown away by it at all. It dragged on a little to much for me, and was sort of obvious that spoiler. Of course, I cannot critique Bale or Lawrence on their performances, since they come full throttle every time, but the story line just... I don't even know.

After O. Russell's last two hits, I honestly expected more of this, but the cheerful cast make up for an only partly involving plot.

Not bad.

Excellent acting from Bale, Lawrence, Adams and Renner. Their performances alone keep you engaged throughout. Good direction, good score it's difficult to find many things to fault with this one.

Nevertheless the story wasn't the greatest, it wasn't as funny as expected and the ending was a little too predictable. It just felt as if the whole thing was lacking, what, I'm not even sure.

Personally I can't understand the plaudits this film has received but I also can't understand the negative comments here either.

It's not brilliant nor is it terrible, it's just a decent one-time watch.

Tight, tense drama with just the right amount of comedy sprinkled. At times you definitely think Scorsese could have directed this film. Great performances by Bale, Adams and especially Lawrence. Also perfect wardrobe and soundtrack. Plucked straight into the 70's, yet still feels fresh.

Stylish and very well-acted, this doesn't really budge me from thinking that Russell is overrated and his earnestly hyperbolic style is a lot of blood and fury with little in the centre. Still, no one really sets a foot wrong, and Lawrence's character is SO well-written that it's hard not to be entertained from beginning to end.

Step 1: Play Fleetwood Mac.
Step 2: Walk towards mirror in slow motion.
Congratulations, you just produced and directed "American Hustle."

This somehow manages to be significantly worse than Silver Linings Playbook, and that movie was atrocious. Jenifer Lawrence is incapable of finishing a single line without losing her accent.

They tell you how to make a good film, plot etc. But what I found here is.. So many pretentious people on this comments section.

Good performance by Bale. Beside that, this is made in hope of winning Oscars, which isn't surprising considering O. Russells last couple of movies. Seems like that is the reason why he directs.
I knew it was to much to ask for, but I had hoped for much, much more, like maybe old-Scorsese style. Instead it reminded me of post 2000-Scorsese (haven't seen "Wolf of Wall-street" yet. I might be surprised, but doubt it.) which is too bad.
You don't have to cry if you miss out on this one...
