For a film with such a low IMDB rating (under 5.0) this is a surprisingly good little horror film - derivative, yes - it's basically a mash up of Amityville, Exorcist, Evil Dead and The Village - with an intrusive score and some poor scriptwriting, but the cast are solid (Sutherland and Spacek, also newcomers Hurd-Wood and Fell), the foggy night-time atmosphere created is excellent and there are a couple of very satisfying moments, especially early on with half seen shadows lurking around and the threat of a supernatural wolf stalking the Bell family. Several reviews I've read are hung up about how this veers away from the "real" Bell witch haunting - as if that means a thing - and the reason for the haunting was not what they were expecting. Get over those trivialities and it's not as bad as you might have heard. 11 years 7 months ago
