I watched this animated gem so much as a boy on VHS I can remember the words to most of the songs now (great 80s pop tunes by Graham Gouldman of 10CC). With the voice talents of Gilda Radner, Harry Shearer and Billy Crystal involved you get a immediate sense of the anarchic quality of this film, combined with some very witty spoofing of real sportsmen and clever uses of specific animals to events elsewhere.... there are so many memorable characters and situations: the Californian otter in the aquatic events surfing on his tail, the New York sewer alligator (Bolt Jenkins!) in the high jump, the evil warthog complete with monocle and sneer in the fencing, and of course the French goat and the African puma head to head (and head over heels) in the marathon.
