A little bit of good cinematography and set design here, but nothing much else to write home about. An issue I see with films from this era, especially Soviet ones, is that the filmmakers are producing movies for a very specific audience. In this case, Soviet Georgians in the early 1920s who are familiar with that region's political history. As such, I have little to no clue what is happening for most of this movie. "The well known meeting in 1905..." uh sure, I can kind of infer what happens in this scene? Just an interesting facet of film history, it really seems like these kind of filmmakers don't expect their work to last. Or if they do, they don't particularly care, which makes sense for how new and delicate film was at this time. 8 months ago
