How to describe this film. That it was only nominated for an oscar in Makeup seems like lunacy. No, it's not a best picture winner, but a nominee, certainly. Here is a film that astonishes its viewer, makes them laugh, makes them cringe and makes them cry. This is a story unlike one you've ever heard before.
Paul Giamatti makes the incorrigible, screw-up of a man, Barney Panofsky, come to life with such reality, the character will live on in your memory for quite some time after the credits have rolled. In my mind, a true character. Rosamund Pike is remarkable as the love of his life, Miriam.
Heartbreaking, humourous and, in an odd way, an inspiring blue-print from a life not-lived.
A great and seemingly under-appreciated gem of 2010. 12 years 9 months ago -
