Having three Oscar winning actresses as leads is already a uniquely stellar ensemble cast, even for a movie, much a less a TV series, but then if you stick around for the second season they add in fucking Meryl Streep.

It doesn't go unrewarded; this series is full of so much stand-out performance energy; it literally might be the most female acting talent ever crammed into one film.

This show is terrible. The writing is on par with gas station romance novels. The characters that might actually have potential to be likable are not focused on enough and Nicole Kidman’s character is basically just a victim. She has no other character traits or story. Every scene she is in for the first half of the season plays out the exact same way. The way they delved out this milder mystery was incredibly cheesy, lame, and cheap as well. The constant cutting away to bystanders with their gossipy comments gets old in the first episode but doesn’t stop. I guess the big twist at the end literally within 5 seconds of the element in question being presented. I don’t get the love for this show, the characters are boring or downright gross people who I don’t care about or want to spend any time with. Another overhyped show that doesn’t deserve a lick of the praise it gets.

Even with the show opening with a murder, the first couple of episodes seemed like it was going to be a catty, gossipy, bitchy black comedy soap opera, but towards the end it became much, much darker and serious in tone. That final episode was one of the more tense things I've watched in a long time just waiting for multiple powder kegs to explode. It's also been such a long time since I wanted a character to succeed as I did for Nicole Kidman's here.

The "twist" could be guessed early on, and when it came, I thought for a split second that it was a wrong move, but that scene with the glances between the women, the strong acting and the editing made it really powerful.

One of the best shows I've watched in a while, and I wasn't expecting to say that when I first turned it on.
