Amazing that a film with Marlene Dietrich at her peak beauty could be this dull. The gorilla number is fun and otherwise...pfffft. All the melodrama involving her husband and son is a snore.
Such contrived and weak plotting. It was barely hanging together. If someone told me half the film was lost I could easily have believed them, but that's not the case. There are some great scenes spread out in the mix, but it was just so poorly done that nothing could save it. Easily Von Sternberg's worst.

Oh my God how I loved this movie. Great acting. Cary Grant and Marlene Dietrich were just fine. Nice music and beleivable plot. What a gem.St. Gloede
