Most of the comedy/satire in the original came from the people Borat encountered along the way; pushing the weirdest parts of american idiosyncracy to the front. Here, it’s just him and his daughter saying or doing “outrageous” stuff in front of other people. It felt like a MTV reality from 2005. What I hated the most was that everybody they met was a fucking straw man instead of going for more engaging subjects and questions.

The Mike Pence scene seems to have been planned as the grand finale... but nothing happened, so they reframed the movie around Covid and there’s nothing noteworthy around that either. Also, I’m not defending Rudy (the guy is indeed despicable) but that scene was carefully cut to make him look worse. And the fact that Borat had to be in disguise for most of the movie made me think that it would’ve been better to create a new character altogether. Not that everything is fine now but I saw this after Trump’s term ended and it already feels dated.

A few years ago, pointing and saying “get a load of this guy” may have been enough. Now, we need a more engaging conversation.

Pretty much as good as a sequel to Borat could be. They were extremely limited in what they could do. Some incredible one liners, and the ending is well done.

However, it feels very cobbled together, like they didn't have a lot of material (which makes sense, I guess).

So yeah, it's hamstrung from the get go. I liked it.

I’m so scared of what is going on with the world. This movie is brilliant in making me realize that

Much more story driven than the original, but to its detriment, ultimately. The plot’s pathos is a bit of an albatross for what most viewers will expect from this film.

Borat 2 has one or two shocking moments, but its ultimate point may in fact be to point out how not shocking certain elements are. The conspiracy theories of the fringe right make for an easy target, but it SHOULD be shocking just how insane they are. Sadly, for anyone following the news about these groups, they probably know the lies they believe. Cohen does a great job of getting these people to reveal the depths of their depravities, but it’s not particularly surprising.

I can’t say I enjoyed Borat 2, but when the film’s power comes from the shock value, what was there the film could do?

Wasn't a patch on the first movie but that's to be expected given Borat's rise to fame in the States so it's difficult to repeat that unbeknownst Gotcha! formula.
Much of the film missed the mark for me but there's still enough hilarious moments which made it worthwhile, the daughter in particular steals the show for much of it.

Not brilliant but would still recommend.
