This film was rubbish. It's like someone at Pixar thought to try make a Dreamworks movie and prevailed... unfortunately.

I had greater expectations, but it was simply too predictable. Pixar seems to either tear my heart out or just fall flat.

The animation is exceptional but story wise, I don't think Brave had much to offer.

Too much Disney, too little Pixar. Sure, the animation was great and so were the voices (Billy Connolly is amazing) and soundtrack + original music; but the story was just 'meh'. Quite predictable from what Disney has done in earlier films... Some sort of Beauty and the Beast meets Brother Bear.

Fantastic stuff from PIXAR. My jaw was dropped the entire time, especially at the beautiful hair (haha!).

The scenes with Merida and spoiler were some of the funniest and most clever I've seen from the studio.

Beautiful picture on the Blu-ray too, top level stuff.

I agree with the previous comments, i found the plot very predictable, like a mixed combination of several previous movies from disney. The story doesn't make a statement whatsoever... It's very simple, little adventure, the plot goes on very quickly... it's very short! It's just a shame, because they've created a beautiful celtic world, everything was beautiful and magical... except for the story itself!

Basically agree with the general consensus: visually absolutely stunning but plot was predictable and unoriginal with none of the usual Pixar flair. Feels more Dreamworks than Pixar quality, although if it was Dreamworks we would judge it by much lower standards, and lavish a lot more praise on it. It's most definitely a film for kids, unlike the other Pixar films, which are equally or more (Wall-e) riveting for adults.

Better than the Cars films, but it doesn't unseat anything else in the Pixar rankings. A worthwhile watch, but one of the more formulaic Pixar films for a long time. The plot is nothing special, it's the execution that counts.

Solid, but missing the magic that the greatest Pixar films had (Wall-E, Up, Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles). Felt like a Disney movie made by Pixar. Still an 8/10, but not the masterpiece that we're used to from Pixar.

Terrible by Pixar's standards.

The oddly shoehorned-in "Brave" is a better title than Hair Physics: The Movie, but it's pretty generic considering they have to epilogue an explanation. In any case, the bones of a good story are there, but the Pixar/Disney collaboration fails on a number of fronts. The tone, for one. With the three little scamps, we're in Loony-Tunes territory, but the third act has animal and mother jeopardy that's too intense for the kiddies it's trying to amuse. It's hard to empathize with Merida once she decides to essentially brainwash her mother, and seeing her play with her mom-turned-bear as if she were just another cartoon pet (and is bear mom really that magical when their horse is also anthropomorphized?) gave me the grumblies. Mother and daughter coming to a compromise is, all in all, better played in the similar Turning Red. While there's a fun Scottish flavor (may or may not fly in Scotland), the world's lore is sadly under-written and leaves the film with gaps you'd have rather seen filled out. So it's okay, and wouldn't be half as frustrating if it didn't sometimes hint at how much better it could have been.

"Too much Disney, too little Pixar." - Nilkes

This reviewer nails it. It just isn't up to Pixar standards of storytelling. Granted no studio can hit a grand slam with every movie, but it still seems odd that Pixar could be so far off the mark. If you go back across all the previous movies you'll find they all have some edge, something unique about the storyline that we haven't seen in animation before. Brave doesn't have that, it's just a Disney princess movie minus the Prince charming and made by Pixar.

And nudity in a Pixar film? Good Lord, what were they thinking?

[3/10] Brave can be classified to be one of the rare failures from Pixar. It starts out with some charm and unfortunately descends into a nonsensical self pitying drama queen. Uninspiring characters, pale humor and a weak plot, all contribute well to Brave's forgettable experience. [3/10]

Oh, this was lovely! The animation felt a bit weird to me at times, especially with movements etc, like the horse running, but other than that it's gorgeous to look at and I liked the story, even if it was a bit predictable. And bear mum is adorable!
