I don't think Shaw's (or Shakespeare's, for that matter) treatment of Cleopatra's legend (or the foibles of monarchs, or stories of imperial Rome) had much to do with a desire for "authenticity" about anything but human nature. Nor was Shaw (or Shakespeare) much influenced by "Hollywood."
