The animal torture, while pointedly compared to the human torture, doesn't accomplish much. This film is sick, but there are other sick films. This one just doesn't accomplish enough to justify its disgusting scenes, which make up about half the film. My personal conclusion is: it isn't worth it.

There are a series of excellent moments and it still has the power to shock, but the message is far too heavy-handed for it to be perfect.
