Beautifully written western of such relaxed rhythms that it takes a little while to realize you're watching something great. Dana Andrews embodies the pioneer spirit that built an America that exists only in myth and legend-- while his self-destructive friend and brutish enemy reflect the dark underbelly that ultimately prove that the USA and the whole "human race is a horrible mistake". But this is not a cynical movie. The beautiful barn-building scene and the tender romances attest to that. It's a film that celebrates communities. It's also a film that celebrates Hoagy Carmichael. He's cool as fuck. Check it out. 2 years ago -
