The political thriller elements work well and feel refreshing in the context of a superhero film, but as the story progresses the level of goofiness increases along with the level of CGI, with the finale being an uninspired CGI filled "race against time to complete an arbitrary task." In fact the two best action scenes are the one on a ship and a car chase that both occur early on in the film and are mainly achieved with practical effects.
The political commentary is rather muddled and paranoid but its presence is interesting.
Overall, slightly above average for a blockbuster superhero movie and decent though unimpressive in filmmaking terms.

What a surprise!!!! A much better sequel. Really entertaining with some stand out action scenes and good cast with Robert Redford leading the way.

Fantastic action, the action scenes were amazing, the fights scenes were really great, they were bad ass.
This movie you see the best Nick Fury, the best Black Widow and a fantastic Captain America.
The Winter Soldier was a great villain in the movie, he can go head to head with any body.
This is the best marvel movie since the Avengers.

I love how much they used Scarlett in the film. I thought she'd be relegated to a smaller role like in IM2, but they really used her well. And of course, spoiler

I loved it, even more than I loved the Avengers. I think it was better as a movie, not as awesome maybe, but had a whole lot of more substance. The cinematography was pretty, and the fights were choreographed quite beautifully. I also liked the fact that Fury got more space to be an actual character rather than just a prop or a force like in the previous movies he's been in.

Amazing! I expected a fun and action-packed movie like all Marvel movies but this one surpassed all of my expectations. Loved it. I think I found my fave Avenger :)

I think Captain America: The Winter Soldier is an odd title, because it makes it sound like Cap is the Soldier. The real title should have been The Agents of SHIELD That Are Actually Awesome. No slight to the show, but this is what a balls-out, Steranko-era SHIELD story would be like in live action. Cap, Black Widow, Falcon, Nick Fury, Maria and Agent 13 (ooh, Emily Van Camp!) all get good roles. The first 15 minutes had me smiling like a loon, all the way up to Batroc, and there were more nerdgasms to come. The action stuff was well done, but the script really understands its characters, and how to balance the tone between light and dark. Not a big fan of Robert Redford as the piece's villain, but he seems smart enough that when he gets finally outplayed, it's as exciting as any superhero slugfest. Huge ramifications for the Marvel movie universe too. I thought Cap 2 would be weaker for losing the WWII setting that made the first one unique, but no, it's a stronger film for all the spy thriller intrigue.
