Film Noir World
Forget about the story, this film is a showcase for hands-on special effects in early sound film history.
Clever camerawork, editing and rather spectacular stunt work lead to a pretty amazing midsection in which a train overloaded with logs loses its breaks alongside a steep ravine and is on ramming course with the terminal.
The finale where the heroes are trying to avoid a dam break is also very good, with logs - huge logs that is - falling dangerously close to the actors/stunt people in the wildly running river.
And it's all over in a mere 60 minutes! Great matinee fun.... 9 years 7 months ago -
