I'd say this is very underrated. I love Oldboy, but it gets insane credit, whereas this gets hardly any.I think it is one of the most powerful, beautiful and understated films ever made. Everything about it is elegant and stunning, from Geum-Ja to the cakes, the music and the gun.
I absolutely love it and can't articulate it fully in words.

I totally loved it for one hour and a half, because of its artistic touch and its powerful main character, but I must say I didn't like the last 30 minutes or so.(I'm not a vengeance guy...)
Nevertheless: every movie fan should watch it.

Park Chan-wook's (Sympathy for) Lady Vengeance is a real freight train, expecting you to follow the story through its initial breakneck pace, going and back and forth in time to set the pieces into motion. A young woman gets out of prison, and had become the guardian angel to many inmates during her time, but she was really recruiting help to help her enact her bloody revenge on the man who put her there. That's a very broad stroke, because - while I won't say the film is hard to follow, only that it requires your attention - it's a lot more complicated than that, and that's what makes it so delightfully unpredictable. One of director Park's tricks is to tease out information only as needed, and I feel like he's still revealing secrets during the last few minutes. And you certainly don't know where it's going or how it all fits together until the end. Tonally too, because the film is very funny and has a sense of fun, but then has these horrible acts at the center of it, the last piece of the "sympathy" being built for the title character, which may be hard for some viewers to watch. A gorgeous-looking film, too, though not sure that needs be said when we're discussing Park Chan-wook.Virgilia
The film itself show us the vengeance, not only in the desire of killing someone but the preparation, and let the person without any escape. The most emotional and deep film of the Vengeance Trilogy, and by far the most well executed and beautiful of the three movies. Simply amazing.

I can't believe this isn't in any top lists. This film is a masterpiece.deckard.
terrible.oldboy has a message, something that makes us think. a moral ambiguity to ponder.
but other two movies of the vengeance trilogy are very pedestrian. scenes are there just for the sake of shocking, nothing more. for ex, what was the last 30 min of this movie telling us? those videos of kids? what purpose they serve? nothing at all.
overall a very poor movie.

I also preferred Lady Vengeance over OldBoy.Be aware that DVD release includes a "fade to Black and White version" which is absolutely stunning. This was the initial vision of director Park Chan-wook but the process was too expensive for the cinema release and was done only later for the DVD.

A beautiful film. The most subtle out of the trilogy, I loved the silent nature of it. The last scene in the snow was divineJohn Milton
I agree, I just cannot believe this isn't on an official listpapp
Let me put it this way: Very good, but I'm not going to watch it again. The lesser of the trilogy, but good.

I do not believe this is the best of the trilogy, but it still should be in several lists. It's an excellent film, imo!DareDaniel
