   We've come a long, long way, but elements of this time are still with us. The political map still divides along the old slave-holding lines (and for many of the same old reasons); the recent gutting of the Voting Rights Acts, extreme gerrymandering, and voter suppression are a return to Jim Crow tactics. As for the equivalent of the retrogrades shouting racist epithets in films like this, they've just moved to the anonymity of the YouTube comment sections.
