It looked pretty. But that doesn't mean I'll ever take the opportunity to watch it again. I can tolerate a methodical snail pace of a movie, especially when there is something to meditate on or even some payoff at the end. This wasn't necessarily pointless, there just wasn't anything that I cared enough to dig deep to discover. But it sure was pretty though.

Stunning cinematography. Many films seem to shy away from such gorgeous high contrast and saturation (or maybe just saturation? I'm not good at telling the two apart once colour is in the picture).

There's a lot of complaints on IMDb about how much of a slow burner this is. I can see how that would be disappointing if you were expecting Kill Bill, but if you're patient, it works very well and gives the film a lovely rhythm.

Oh dear .. I'm ashamed to admit I had no idea what was going on ..
OK, cue for people to go "You are stupid, go back to watching Transformers" .. but I'm afraid without quite a lot of plot spoiling pre reading, I doubt few people will follow who-is-who and what is happening. Many will say it is slow .. well, it is.. but I happen to like slow, beautiful, thoughtful films, so I will leave it at that.

Stunning cinematography, but my god was it slow...

It also greatly irked me how every. single. character talked in immense pauses, as if they were suffering some kind of cerebral haemorrhage or were shot on coke. Just get it out for god's sake!

I remember this as one of the most surreal and unexpected nights at a theater. The whole audience came out afterwards onto the St. Louis Delmar loop grumbling and, suddenly realizing we had all been collectively bored to tears, we started laughing and talking. The whole theater ended up ambling down the street to a diner and then later a bar, united by the shared relief of surviving an arty dud.

I read lots of critical pieces praising this movie, and more power to them, but I got a very special memory from a bad time transformed into a community experience.

I was watching this on laptop.

Scene 1: Landscape, wow, fast forward, no change, fast forward, no change, fast forward, no change...

5 minutes later...

Scene 2: Costumes, wow, fast forward, no change, fast forward, no change, fast forward, no change...

Final Scene: Landscape, wow... should I fast forward? meh. laptop closed
