Many of the bits in this one are unforgivably weak (ex: when he's sitting in the car changing colors), but I am officially listing this flick as one of my top 100 guilty pleasures. Though it is bad, oh so bad.
I just finished watching it alone in the middle of the night and I want to go home and see my family, I loved it no matter what everybody else says. If you like Sandler, you know you'll be able to sit through this, watch it.
This movie was very preachy and very hard to sit through. It was too focused on the main character and his personal journey and since his character spends over an hour being a jerk to others it got really hard to not hate him. Even after they gave him some bullshit Freudian excuse, I felt nothing but contempt for him. Towards the end I'd tried to desperately muster up some sympathy for the guy but then the movie got all preachy and I lost my shit all over again. Basically it goes from unfunny comedy about a miserly jerk, to drama about repentant aged father, seeking redemption and to fix his broken relationships, back to the start to a changed man and if that wasn't the worst rip-off of that Christmas story ever, then I don't want to know what is.
Even though its a movie that is not perfect, it has an interesting twist and it is worth watching. If they could get the message through a little better it would be a great film. It has some funny moments and it has a sad ending.
