   A very pleasant family drama with lots of comedy. A pleasant return to the screen for deaf issues in the mainstream. The music and singing is lovely and the story pulses along quite naturally, which is not easy to do. Never boring, but never quite wowing either, CODA is pleasant and mildly refreshing.

   Ham-fisted humor (e.g. parents sex stuff) and overblown characterizations that just do not exist like that in real life (the fucking choir teacher) but otherwise enjoyable. I loved the sign language aspect of it. I wasn't expecting to but it was just so refreshing and different. The story was good, if not paint-by-numbers-inspirational, but it would have been better told in a capable writer/director's hands who wasn't so caught up in milking her own sentiments.

   a very well-made, very touching, very cute movie-of-the-week tearjerker. the whole family gives good performances. the dad is funny and it was nice to see the lip reader from Seinfeld as the mom. 1 year 8 months ago
