I've been thinking about why I didn't like this film more - given that it's well directed, and mostly very well acted by Fiennes, Redgrave and Cox in particular. I think the problem is that the play, unlike most of the Shakespeare plays I know and love, is a bit boring. Even though it's full of war (something Fiennes pushes right to the front) the central character is never as interesting as he should be - neither that fascinating as a villain or compelling as a hero - and the climax of the play is a damp squib. Ultimately a worthy attempt to bring Coriolanus to the big screen, but it seems clear why it's not been done before. 11 years 8 months ago -

well directed and well acted but i didn't really give a crap about any character except the two idiots who banished him and that's just because i wanted them to die horribly. didn't even get that satisfaction. Shakespearean dialogue is ill suited for something like this. it just makes it look ludicrous and so incredibly fake. could have been much better but also much worse.

Disagree with the others save maybe for the one word comment (rhymes with heinous). Powerful and concise and plenty of room for Freudian analysis if one feels that is necessary as well. Brilliantly executed in my opinion. 8 years 12 months ago
