I can understand why some commenters consider it "too religious", but I think they really did try to provide examples of becoming a better man towards those around you in general. Examples that anyone can follow.
I just saw Courageous for the first time, as I held off watching it due to the reviews being less positive than the Kendrick brothers' earlier movies. I didn't want it to stain the interesting connection I've had with those, already ever since I saw Facing the Giants with a friend. Another friend who is madly into cars borrowed me his DVD of their debut movie Flywheel, and the copy of Fireproof I had, went to a couple who were facing enormous difficulties in their marriage, which they fortunately have overcome.
After seeing Courageous, I think this is their best movie yet. It shows that their production team has further developed on all fronts; the camerawork used in various settings, the soundtrack, and especially the directing of the viewer's emotions. What could still use some improvement is the sometimes corny scripted lines. Although I do not want this to sound like a justification, I can understand that the makers of this film care too much about getting their message across, that they take the liberty of cutting the subtleties and just spelling out the dialogues every now and then. And as mentioned above, this message can be picked up by anyone, regardless of your beliefs.
Like LOTR 3 and The Dark Knight, this movie has multiple endings. It seems this time, they wanted to discuss several themes, but thought it more appropriate to isolate each motive, again to consolidate the message. I can imagine them having had a discussion about either doing a 2+ hour movie, or making it into two movies. Which did spark a thought in me whether a sequel to Fireproof could have potential. No new movie has been announced yet, but I hope we'll see them make more movies. 10 years 10 months ago -

The film isn't about god.
It's about doing the right thing, making the right decisions in life, and being grateful for what you have.
The characters (and most religious people in my opinion) feel they need someone to adhere to, look up to, or pray to - to be a good person. These men hold religion/god close because they want to be good people, or "be courageous", and I don't think there's error in that.
Don't let it ruin the film for you. I just thought of it as a karma thing in the end. I'm not religious but this film really spoke to me. 11 years 7 months ago -

maybe for you is too religious, but this is all about, that Jesus Christ is in the center of their life and how He works in our lifes, if you let him. 12 years 1 month ago
