Great cast, solid action and special effects but seriously lacking in story and esspecially FUN. With a title like this and 007 and Indiana Jones in one movie......man i was looking forward in finally seeing this but movie was just ok. Could and should have been sooooooo much better

The plot might be a stretch, but name one sci-fi that isn't. At the very least, it looks and sounds fantastic. The acting was decent enough with several great cameos stealing the show. Felt like the main cast couldn't be bothered to make a real effort. I wish they had cast someone other than Harrison Ford, he was royally out of place here.
Overall; an enjoyable ride IMHO, I wasn't expecting much due to all the hating out there.

I get a distinct feeling that any time someone tries to mix the western genre with anything else, the overwhelming response (at least from America and they usually whine the loudest) is instant hate. Is there some kind of drug they put in your water to make you rise in unison and gang-hate on genre-mixing involving western themes?
Probably the same people yelled bloody murder at Wild Wild West, Priest, From Dusk Till Dawn and so on. Granted, not exactly Academy Award winners any of them... but if you go searching for flaws instead of trying to enjoy a movie, you'll only find what you are looking for.

I think I've figured out what's wrong with Cowboys & Aliens, a high-concept, well-executed movie that should have been rad, but fell a little flat. I think that it works so well as a western that we don't welcome the aliens into the story. Because I love Daniel Craig as a badass gunfighter, and there are some good characters there for Harrison Ford, Clancy Brown and Sam Rockwell, evocative music, strong landscape, and a tragic story for the hero. But the science fiction elements, which I should have embraced seeing how much genre mashing I've done in my role-playing games over the years, kinda bugged me. Not that I don't appreciate the attempt to make the aliens like the Conquistadors, looking for gold and slaves, a bit of poetic justice for the white settlers of the West. It's not that the aliens aren't well crafted, but they can't ever be as interesting as the humans, and I wish I could have seen that western unfold without their appearance. That said, after seeing how much of the effects were practical in the extras (a fine commentary by director Jon Favreau, and three featurettes on the story, the aliens and the stunts), I think my opinion of Cowboys & Aliens has been raised. I'll probably like it better the next time I see it. After a single viewing, I find it "just ok".

Nice action, cool aliens, quite entertaining - but not necessarily something I'd watch over and over again. Did not expect more though. So it was alright.

I think the writer of this story must have watched his 6 year old at play and thought "hmmm that might make a cool movie" LOL cowboys, Indians and aliens in one movie ... and yet, not as bad as it sounds.

The reference to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly made me laugh, I love Tuco hehehe. The actors are pretty good although their characters are completely flat. The action scenes were very good. I mean what were you expecting from a movie called Cowboys & Aliens?! 6.5/10

average. so much so to the point of being oxymoronic. this could have been really better if they kept up the tension of finding those people. at least 30 to 45 min could have been cut to keep the pace rolling. plot was a little thin though with the aliens' reason for abducting people a little flawed. performances are ok with craig being a badass, wilde just being her pretty self though i wish she had more to do and ford grunting his way through his character. wish rockwell and the others had more to do. spoiler. 6/10 from me.

I really enjoyed it for about half an hour or so, then after they all set out to chase the aliens it seemed to slow down and just got increasingly dull, for me. Even the Big Climax wasn't exciting, it just seemed to go on and on far more than was needed.

I watched the extended cut and felt it could do with a good 20-30 minutes chopping out. Perhaps the theatrical cut is better, but sadly the UK Blu-ray doesn't include that option.

Loved it! Good fun and doesn't take itself too seriously. If you're expecting constant action and gore then don't bother watching it. Plenty of laughs.

While the plot was not overly complicated, I found the movie to be fun and enjoyable. My wife and I got a chuckle from the various cameos by what seemed like a lot of our favorite actors. Sam Rockwell was entertaining in his role, and Clancy Brown as a preacher killed us. (The Kurgan is a preacher?!? LOL) Look if you want a movie where people are having body parts blown off from opening credits to close then no this isn't the movie for you. If you're looking for some pretentious Oscar attempt by (insert famous and/or foreign directors name) then this is also not the movie for you. If you want something that's fun and manages to blend an odd ball pairing of genre's then check it out.

It did have a VERY predictable plot. I guessed what was gonna happen like 3 or 4 times in the movie and got it right every time.

The Sci-Fi stuff towards the end was allright, the Western stuff though (which was 70% of the movie) was plain boring!

Somewhat enjoyable, but way too predictable with several plot holes.
