The 3 minute trailer on IMDb practically gives the entire movie away and is quite clear as to what one can expect. I think it's save to say this probably won't silence many critics of the Bollywood Mafia.

I didn't see much reason here to watch yet another Aamir Khan film, after not liking so many of his pictures before. More of the same, if you ask me. But since it showed up in the top 250, didn't drop out soon and the fact that I actually kind of enjoyed Drishyam, I gave it a fair go, as requested in the comments here.

Generic, Aamir Khan Bollywood drivel, I'm sorry to say, the feminist stroke notwithstanding. spoiler, haven't we seen enough of that already? Maybe it's just me. But it still baffles me that people rate stuff like this that high. The mind boggles. BUT: the good news is, Aamir Khan fans will probably love it for the same reasons they liked his other flicks. Me hating it doesn't change that one bit. Nor should it.

At least as good as any typical Western sports movie (i.e. it does have some rather clichéd/familiar plot beats, but executes them as well as anybody), but bonus points for excitingly directed fight scenes and making a point of tackling India’s attitudes towards women.

Fairly generic and clichéd sports story but its mostly executed fairly well. The wrestling sequences and Indian culture make it worth a watch, however it is completely undeserving of being the top rated sports movie on imdb. Definitely an example of Indian bias on the site

Just another inspirational sports movie. Top 250, blows my mind.

this is the second Bollywood film I have seen, after Like Stars on Earth and I have to say I liked Dangal a lot more. Expectations do make a big difference I guess and going in with such low ones, helped me to appreciate Dangal for what it was. It was cheesy, and all of the historical innacuracies were easy to spot spoiler, so that took it down a few marks for me. the father forcing his daughters into the sport when they didn't want to was a shame, but I'm glad it was at least partially addressed with the young bride's comments.

I preferred the music montage's in this film over other Bollywood's literal song and dances. So certainly there are some fun and light parts to this movie that I enjoyed it for what it was. but as others have said it doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the best sports movie of all time, or to be in the top IMDB lists.
