I blame Family Guy for the idea that nostalgia is somehow comedy.

The opening five minutes of this film unfortunately seal its fate as misguided but not without value. The exposition of Barnabus' story is so poorly handled, you have to think that some studio boss shoved their nose where it didn't belong or this film was rushed along before it was ready in order to capitalize on a mini vampire craze. The result is a love story that never takes off, leaving the audience only with a few decent laughs in a "fish-out-of-time-period story" and a poor third act that feels as unsatisfying as being a vampire must.

While Depp is good, I can't imagine Tim Burton knowingly doing such a half-hearted job on a film that seems so up his alley. Strong potential wasted.

This movie is meh. Watched a couple get up and leave. I wouldn't say it was that bad, but it's still not good either. I was disappointed as well.

It has its funny moments, but overall it's pretty disappointing. Sad to say I've gotten used to being disappointed by Tim Burton in the past few years.

A little bit too weird to be good, but it certainly has very entertaining moments. Johnny Depp and Eva Green are good in it, whilst Chloe Grace Moretz is deeply irritating and Michelle Pfeiffer is a complete non-entity.

Far from the best of Burton.

Eva rightfully outshined Johnny Depp.

I'd agree with the consensus that it is just okay. The acting was all good and it had moments of good humor. But the plot itself and the pacing all just felt off.

Really did not enjoy it. It seems like such a stupid pun to make, but lifeless is the best word I can come up with to describe it.

It was okay. Funny, entertaining... but Burton did better.

For me, it was something between an "okay" and a "good" movie. The plot was very simple but there were things I liked in the movie such as the acting and not to mention, the humour too.

It wasn't bad, but it wasn't really Burton-ish either. I felt like watching a gothic family movie with fun plot, but nothing more.
