A really strange combination for a couple, but somehow touching in a non-melancholic way. Marion Cotillard at her best. Her face said everything about the character: deep in pain even when she was smiling, but really really tough.

The story certainly took me in unpredictable directions, but the most interesting one, and the largest selling point of the film is left behind by the second act.

Still, its very good and has one of the most powerful scenes I've seen all year.

Melodramatic and emotionally manipulative at times but it still cast a powerful punch. Poignant, beautiful portrait of two broken people with towering performances.

Top notch directing, a decent script and good acting make this a worthwile investment of your time. Don't expect a second 'Rundskop' though, therefore it lacks the rawness found in that movie.

Roger Ebert tweeted that this was to be added to Great Movies, but so far it hasn't been

Great movie
And a good photography also.
Marion Cotillard did a great performance, once again.

Just finished watching this and I was blown away.

A Prophet is one of my favourite films and this is definitely on par. Audiard knows exactly how to make gutwrenching yet tender films.

I encourage you to not read anything about this before you watch it. I didn't have a clue of any details and the things that happened hit me damn hard.

Beautiful and fantastic, powerful stuff.

Like juanittomx - definitely one of the best of the year, and an instant favourite. My expectations were high given Audiard's superb track record, coupled with Marion Cottiard's winning streak - and I wasn't disappointed. It's beautifully acted by the whole cast and beautifully shot, bursting with sunlight and shadows, which echoes the darkness and light, violence and tenderness cleverly balanced throughout. The whole film is semiotic heaven - it's packed with metaphor and telling imagery but without forcing it down your throat. I will say Stephanie's return to the marine park and the final scenes had me gripped and emotionally raw. I left the cinema in a daze - which only great cinema can do. Highly recommended.
