The filmmakers have attempted to make a modern-day adaptation of The Third Wave. This required some creative freedom on the writers' side, which unfortunately affects the credibility of the story. The characters and dialogs seem very staged. There is a clear expiry date (MySpace was still a thing). But most of all, the unnecessarily added dramatization
especially the suicide at the end and the incarceration of the teacher, none of which ever happened in the original Ron Jones experiment
have turned it into a teenage drama that loses all of its historic value.
Discovered this by accident a few months ago. Incredibly disturbing. The psychology of group-think and the horrors which it can lead to are in full display in this film.

An unintended nazi-esque brainstorming goes wrong. Without the twist, the film was so-so. I saw it at #GermanCinema #Jerin2011.KaramAkerfeldt
Das Experiment does it a lot better.rainy
Pretty good, and scary. Funny to see how everyone is hypocrite.Zorobay
Just really good!mook
This German drama parallels the rise of the Nazis, as a teacher's experiment to illustrate Fascism gets out of hand... 7/10@LastFilmSeen

Pretty amazing movie. Scared the hell out of me. (Mainly 'cause it's based on a real incident, but still..)Nine99
"Based on a real incident".Only, the teacher highly embellished it, and forgot to mention the anti-Wave organization that immediately formed.
Preachy bullshit.
