I liked this movie a lot but it's on 57 IMDb's Top 250?! 8.5? REALLY? Films rated worst than Django:
Taxi Driver, Aliens, Gladiator, Lawrence Of The Arabia, A Clockwork Orange, The Lion King, Requiem For A Dream, Full Metal Jacket, Chinatown, Metropolis, Amadeus, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Scarface, Gran Torino... And I could have gone on and on, know what I mean?

No character development; excessively long; absent any moral center whatever. What grace and depth it has it owes to Jamie Foxx. I've come to the conclusion that Tarantino does not make good movies; he makes bad movies with a lot of "panache" and craft.

Good but not great movie, people get carried away because it's Tarantino. I really enjoyed the first 2 hours or so but then, instead of building towards what could have been a brilliant climax it loses all impetus and becomes very cliched and predictable for the last 40 minutes or so. Some brilliant performances, particularly from Di Caprio , Jackson and Waltz all the same. All being said probably my 3rd favourite QT film after Inglourious Basterds and Pulp Fiction. Enjoyable and definitely worth a watch, but no masterpiece.

It's a kitschy movie with some fun elements and a very nice soundtrack and cinematography.

django unchained is tarantinos epic love-letter to his spaghetti western influences, and it delivers remarkably in acting, comedy, action and development. whilst the story is merely a revenge tale, the pacing and tension never stops. you know someone's going to snap, you just don't know who, how or when.

this is easily tarantinos best work since reservoir dogs, and it easily steals its place into one of my 21st century favorites. 9/10

Waltz did a magic job here, amazing.

Some of the most visceral and wince inducing action scenes I can remember watching. The end shoot outs were jaw dropping.

The running time flew by and I really recommend it for a easy and fun watch.

One of the best films I've seen, don't watch it late at night though as its nearly 3 hours long and will ruin it.

After hearing so many opinions about the film, I was so shocked at how funny the film turns out to be, but that's what I get for underestimating Quentin Tarantino. Kerry Washington needs a much larger role in the story, and Leonardo DiCaprio either needs to shit or get off the pot vis a vis his accent. Naturally Samuel L. Jackson is wonderful as always, but tragically underused and again, DiCaprio is not the idea partner to his "Stephen" character.

I feel that the movie is justified in it's length, however its time might have been better spent delving deeper into say, Broomhilda's character. All this aside, the entire film alone is nearly worth it for Jamie Foxx's biceps in that blue velvet getup...

Very first scene:

”1858, 2 years before the Civil War.”

Jeeeesus. Quentin Tarantino dropped out of high school at age 15. It shows. Only a genius can be this dumb and still win the Academy Award for writing. He's like the Forrest Gump of directors.
